Lingual braces ('lingual' in this case meaning 'close to the tongue') such as the Incognito range, are hidden on the inside of the teeth and are uniquely customised to match the shape of your teeth. They are sometimes referred to as 'invisible braces' or 'iBraces'.
The main benefit of lingual braces is that – even though they are metal braces - they are completely contained behind the teeth and so are largely invisible. There is no need to remove them before you eat, as you need to with other aligners – such as Clear Aligners (Invisalign).
Lingual braces may also be more effective than aligners in treating more complicated cases where there is considerable tooth crowding or an incorrect bite, as they can be customised to each individual tooth. And as they are also in place 24 hours a day, treatment time can be reduced as against other treatments.
Treatment costs are significantly higher than traditional braces and they are not suitable for all cases. Some patients can find their speech to be significantly affected by wearing braces on the inside of their teeth.
